Kunar Prov., Afghanistan miniature 4.8 x 4.3 x 1.7 cm Three purple Apatite crystals on Albite. Main crystal is 1.8cm wide with great purple color. Afghani purple Apatite can be great but ususally dissapoints with perhaps less than 10% of the specimen I see being of interest, when you can find any. This specimen delivers.
But news of mineral riches in Afghanistan was not really new. Since the 1960s, it was reported by the Minerals Yearbook of the U.S. Geological Survey that Afghanistan is rich in natural gas, copper, iron ore, gold, silver, and precious gems. Afghanistan has chromite that hardens steel.
